Grenadiers remain undefeated with 28-0 win over Oshawa

Kingston Grenadiers kept their perfect defensive record intact and they did it in style Saturday afternoon in a 28-0 Ontario Varsity Football League varsity division victory over the Oshawa Hawkeyes.
The Grenadiers, who have not allowed the opposition offence to score a single point in four games this season, denied one Oshawa scoring bid in the fourth quarter when Darien Leblanc intercepted a pass at the Kingston goal line.
Later, by now playing with several substitutes, the Grenadiers thwarted another Hawkeyes drive when Ian Swann knocked down a fourth-down pass in the shadow of the Kingston goal posts to preserve the shutout with 80 seconds left to play.
In addition to a splendid performance against an Oshawa offence that managed just one first down in the middle two quarters - and that on a fake punt - the Grenadiers' defence had a lot to do with putting Kingston points on the scoreboard.
With the home team nursing a 7-0 lead in the second quarter, Farhan Imtiaz intercepted a Garrett Arsenault pass and returned it 25 yards for a touchdown. When Oshawa fumbled the ensuing kickoff, Nick Dowd recovered for Kingston at the Hawkeyes' 35-yard line and that led to a Mike Bashall field goal.
On Oshawa's next possession, Aaron Brownlee blocked a punt and four plays later to Bashall booted his second field goal of the game for a 21-0 halftime lead.
Kingston's first touchdown came in the first quarter on a 10-yard run by Dustin Brogaard and the last came in the third quarter when Grenadiers quarterback Dylan Fisher completed six passes in a row to four different receivers to set up a first-and-goal situation from the Oshawa two-yard line. On his second crack at the end zone, Brogaard was stopped but the ball wound up in the hands of Jason McGinn, the Carleton-bound centre, who lugged it into the end zone for a touchdown.
The fourth quarter was scoreless.
Brogaard finished the game with 69 yards from 10 carries. Fisher completed 13 of 21 pass attempts to seven different receivers for a total of 150 yards.
The win improves Kingston's record to 4-0, heading into a game next Saturday at Cumberland. The Hawkeyes fell to 2-2.
The varsity victory also allowed the Grenadiers to sweep the tripleheader at Loyalist Collegiate, as the bantam and junior teams each gained their first win of the year against a winless Oshawa club.
Michael Thompson had a terrific day running with the football for the bantam Grenadiers, who defeated Oshawa 41-20. He gained a staggering 353 yards along the ground, a total that included touchdown runs of 75, 40, 90 and 91 yards. Ben Maracle had a nine-yard TD run for the Grens, while Tommy Pendergast threw for Kingston's other major score, a 10-yard play to Matthew McDonald. Tristan O'Brien kicked four converts and Chad Stymest booted a 39-yard punt single.
A 66-yard interception return for a touchdown was the big play of the Grenadiers' 22-14 junior varsity victory over the Hawkeyes. Quarterback Tanner DeJong ran 14 yards for another major score and he connected with Liam Smith for a 34-yard TD pass. DeJong finished the game 11-for-21 for 167 yards. Smith was the favourite target, with five catches for 95 yards.
Caleb Goodfellow led the junior varsity rushing attack, carrying 10 times for 72 yards.
