Kings beaten 10-6 by Cornwall
Posted: June 28th, 2013 @ 12:38am
Ryan Dewar scored four goals and he assisted on another Thursday night to lead the Cornwall Celtics to a 10-6 win over the Kingston Kings in an Ontario Junior C Lacrosse League game at Centre 70.
The game was scoreless through the first 11 minutes when Dewar opened scoring with a shorthanded goal. Before four more minutes had been played the Celtics had a 3-0 lead and two goals 28 seconds apart in the sixth minute of the second period boosted the visitors' lead to 5-1. The Kings were never able to catch up.
Cornwall led 7-2 when Kingston's Josh Smith scored twice in the final 95 seconds of the second period but for the third time in the game the Kings were victimized by the rapid-fire blitz, as Cornwall scored twice in a 26-second span early in the third period to put the game away.
The loss spoiled a splendid offensive game for Smith, who had a hand in five of the six Kingston goals, scoring three times - giving him 21 for the season - and assisting on two others. Jonah Lewis, Alec Johnston and Kyle Aylesworth shared the other goals for the Kings.
Kevin Hope, Quin MacDonell, Steven Melios, Brock Daze, Brandon Perras and Sam Fontaine scored once each for the Celtics. Ryne Legue had five assists.
In his last six games against the Kings over the past two seasons, Legue has 14 goals and 22 points.
The win was the 10th in 12 games for the Celtics, who moved within four points of East division-leading Clarington. The loss dropped the Kings to 5-7-1. They remain in fourth place, two points ahead of idle Whitby, but still without a win against a .500 team this year.
The Kings will resume play next Thursday at Cornwall. Related Articles:
