Heather Jaros 12th in heat at world youth track and field
Posted: July 11th, 2013 @ 1:55am
Kingston's Heather Jaros had a disappointing day at the IAAF world youth track and field championships Wednesday in Donetsk, Ukraine. On the opening day of the meet, Jaros finished 12th in her heat of the women's 1,500 metres and did not qualify to advance.
After a bout of asthma interfered with her final pre-meet training last week, Jaros, who established a modern Ontario junior high school record in June at 4 minutes 26.85 seconds, finished her race in 4:45.21.
"I'm sure she'll put the experience to good use on future teams, of which there will be many, I'm sure," Steve Boyd, her coach with the Physi-Kult club, wrote in an email.
The heat was won by Ethopian Dawit Seyaum, in a personal-best time of 4:14.40.
Jaros was the second Canadian in the field. Megan Rempel of Fonthill, Ont., was 12th in the other heat, in 4:40.56. Related Articles:
