Brockville's Pitt named division MVP
Posted: July 24th, 2013 @ 11:29am
Jarret Pitt of the Brockville Ballistic has been named most valuable player in the East division of the Ontario Junior C Lacrosse League.
A three-year member of the Ballistic, Pitt led the entire league with 34 goals this season. He had 53 points to finish seventh in the league scoring race.
Pitt scored 31 per cent of his team's goals, and he was involved in almost 50 per cent of the 108 goals scored this year by the sixth-place Brockville club.
This is the first year the league is presenting individual awards. Each team nominated a player in each of the four categories and the winners were chosen from among those finalists in a vote of the league's general managers and coaches.
Also honoured are David Plots of the Gloucester Griffins (most sportsmanlike player), Brandon Labelle of the regular-season champion Cornwall Celtics (best defensive player) and Keenan Cook of the Clarington Shamrox (rookie of the year).
With 74 points, Brandon Johnson of the Peterborough Lakers is the league's scoring champion. It's his second scoring title in three years.
Though the Kingston Kings were shut out of the awards, it was still a momentous season for two of them. Kyle Aylesworth finished the regular season with 58 points, fifth in the league, the highest a Kingston junior has finished in the scoring race since Tim Bergin of the Cavaliers finished third in 2009.
Josh Smith, with 52 points, finished ninth, giving Kingston two players among the league's Top 10 scorers for just the second time in team history, the first time since Bergin, Davey Hallett and Devon Tough finished 3-4-5 in 2009.
Aylesworth and Smith are just the seventh and eighth Kingston juniors ever to finish in the Top 10. Hugh McDermid was sixth in 1973, Bryan Alexander was seventh in 1975 and Ron Folk was 10th with the junior B Kings in 1976. Related Articles:
