Whitby ousted from lacrosse playoffs
Posted: July 27th, 2013 @ 11:24pm
A week after they swept the Kingston Kings from the first round of Ontario Junior C Lacrosse League playoffs, the Whitby Warriors were themselves ushered out of the post-season in three straight games by the Cornwall Celtics.
Ryan Dewar had two goals and two assists Saturday as the Celtics defeated Whitby 7-1 in Cornwall, completing a sweep of the best-of-five East division semifinal.
The Celtics, who as host of the Meredith Cup championship tournament next month have automatic entry, won the first two games of the series 8-6 and 6-5. They await the winner of the other semifinal, between Clarington and Peterborough, to contest the East division championship.
Clarington leads that series 2-0, with Game 3 scheduled for Sunday afternoon in Bowmanville. As the other East finalist, the winner of this series will also qualify automatically for the Final Four.
