Queen's athletes, coach win silver at Maccabiah Games
Posted: July 30th, 2013 @ 3:20pm
Two members of the Queen's Golden Gaels and varsity men's coach Brenda Willis are returning home from Jerusalem with silver medals from the volleyball competition at the 19th Maccabiah Games.
The 13-day event for Jewish athletes from around the world and Israeli athletes of any faith ends today. More than 9,000 athletes from 70 countries competed in the multisport Games, which are held every four years.
Gaels Jacob Glantz and Aaron Nusbaum were part of the Canadian team that lost only one set in winning its first four matches, over the U.S., Brazil, Argentina and Ukraine. Canada closed its preliminary competition by dropping a 3-0 decision to Israel.
The rematch in the gold-medal match went no better for the Canadians, as the host team again prevailed 3-0.
