Kingston cyclist fourth at Canada Games

Kingston cyclist Anne Foreman-Mackey missed a medal by the narrowest of margins Wednesday at the Canada Summer Games in Sherbrooke, Que.
Foreman-Mackey was one of four riders who finished the women's road race in 2 hours 23 minutes 30 seconds, placing them in a tie for third place. Review of the finish line photo gave the bronze medal to Elisabeth Albert of Quebec, while Foreman-Mackey, who won the gold medal in the women's time trial Monday, was placed fourth, ahead of Anne-Marie Morin of Quebec and Karlee Gendron of Manitoba.
Alizee Brien of Quebec won the race in 2:17:23.
On the course at Milby Golf Club, Austin James of Bath finished the first round of the Canada Games golf tournament tied for 10th place with a one-over-par 74. Etienne Papineau of Quebec and Mark Valliere of British Columbia share the lead after the first day of the 72-hole event at three-under 70.
On the Lake Magog rowing course, Queen's University's Lark Davenport Huyer of Caledon, with Erin Snelgrove of Jordan, Ont., won her heat in the women's double sculls. Their time, 7 minutes 28.09 seconds, was the best time overall Wednesday and it sent the Ontario crew directly to Saturday's final.
On Tuesday, Davenport Huyer was part of the Ontario women's eight that qualified for Friday's final.
Another Queen's rower, Danielle Abusow of London, qualified for her second final when she finished second in the fast heat of the women's lightweight double sculls. Rowing with Jill Moffat of Bethany, the Ontario crew finished in 7:23.51, a little less than four seconds behind B.C., but with the second-fastest time overall.
It's also the second Games final for Abusow, part of the Ontario crew that qualified Tuesday for Friday's final in the women's quadruple sculls.
Scott Macdonald and William Kennedy of Queen's were part of two crews that advanced to Saturday finals.
Macdonald, from Toronto, was part of the Ontario men's four that was second to B.C. in its heat in 6:12.69 but had the second-fastest time overall. Later he was in the Ontario men's eight that won its heat and also had the second-fastest time overall, two and a half seconds slower than B.C. Both Ontario crews advanced directly to their respective final.
Kennedy, from Calgary, had a busier day, rowing in four races as Alberta needed the repechage in both events to advance. In the four, the Albertans were third in their morning heat (6:44.20) but in the afternoon they won the repechage in 6:14.75. In the eight, Alberta was third in the fast heat (6:29.21) but second in the repechage (5:54.32).
In the men's double, Queen's rower Stephen Holloway and Jack Dundas of Calgary were third in their morning heat but second in Wednesday afternoon's repechage to qualify Alberta for the final. They improved their time by almost 25 seconds, and claimed their spot in the final by 7.40 seconds over Manitoba.
