Rowers go for gold Friday at Canada Games

Bath golfer Austin James slipped Thursday in the second round of the Canada Summer Games golf tournament at Milby Golf Club near Sherbrooke, Que.
James, tied for 10th after the opening round, carded a five-over-par round of 78, for a 36-hole total of 152, six over par.
That leaves James in a tie for 13th place heading into the third round Friday of the 72-hole event. He's nine shots behind three British Columbia golfers who share the lead - Trevor Yu, Kevin Kwon and first-round co-leader Mark Valliere - at three-under 143.
Yu, Kwon and Carter Simon of Sutton, Ont., had the top scores Thursday, two-under-par 71s.
Earlier Thursday, Kingston fencer Celeste Suart, representing Ontario with Danielle Burghgraef of Belleville, was eliminated 20-7 by Alberta in the first round of women's team sabre competition.
Friday, Kingston's Matt Christie will be rowing for the gold medal in the men's single on Lake Magog. Christie had the second-fastest time in the heats Tuesday.
He's among a number of Queen's University rowers who will be racing in finals Friday. Foremost among them is Lark Davenport Huyer of Toronto, who will be in the Ontario boat for both the women's quadruple sculls and the women's eight.
Both crews posted the best time in their respective events in Tuesday's qualifying.
In the quad, Davenport Huyer will have Danielle Abusow of Queen's as a crewmate, and in the eight she will be joined by Queen's teammate Shelby Stinnissen, of Peterborough.
Queen's rower Stephen Holloway will be in the Alberta crew in the men's quad final, while William Kennedy of Queen's will row for Alberta in the men's lightweight four.
