Football Gaels hold steady at No. 2 in national poll
Posted: September 10th, 2013 @ 7:55pm
Queen's Golden Gaels remain second in this week's ranking of Canadian university football teams released Tuesday by Canadian Interuniversity Sport.
As it has been all season, Laval is No. 1 in this week's nation-wide poll of 20 members of the University Football Reporters of Canada. However, for the first time it is not unanimous. The Western Mustangs, like Queen's 3-0, garnered one first-place vote.
That allowed the Mustangs to move up one spot, to No. 3.
The biggest gain this week was two spots by Saskatchewan, which finds itself at No. 6. The largest drop was by defending Yates Cup champion McMaster, which was thumped 58-15 by Western to fall to 1-2. The Marauders this week are ranked ninth, down three places from a week ago.
Entering the Top 10 this week at No. 10 are the Saint Mary's Huskies, who won their opening game in Atlantic conference play on Saturday. They displace Bishop's, which lost 44-18 at Montreal.
The fourth Ontario Univesity Athletics team in the list is Guelph, which did not play this week and held steady at No. 7.
This week's Top 10, with previous rank, record, last week's result and next opponent:
1. Laval (1), 2-0, beat Sherbrooke 20-0; next: Saturday, at Acadia.
2. Queen's (2), 3-0, beat Windsor 49-34; next: Saturday, Sept. 21 at Ottawa.
