Record books take a beating on final day of OUA season

The Ontario and Canadian university football record books took a beating Saturday on the final day of the regular Ontario University Athletics season
At Toronto, where the Varsity Blues defeated the Waterloo Warriors 50-18 to complete their first .500 season since their Vanier Cup year of 1993, Toronto's Paul de Pass and Waterloo's Nick Anapolsky both had milestone games.
De Pass caught seven passes for 232 yards to become Varsity's all-time receiving leader. He finished his five-year career with 2,490 yards, surpassing the previous school record of 2,385, set by Mark Magee, 1977-81.
With the most productive receiving day in the conference this year, de Pass also broke the team's single-season receiving record, 860 yards, set by Francis Etienne in 1995.
De Pass' record-breaking play was a 103-yard touchdown pass from Simon Nassar, his third of the game, late in the fourth quarter.
Nassar had a day of his own, completing 23 of 34 passes for 392 yards and five touchdowns.
Anapolsky caught 11 passes for 109 yards for the Warriors, finishing the season with 74 receptions, most in a single season in Canadian intercollegiate history, two more than Charles-Antoine Sinotte of McGill had in 2007
A fourth-year recreation and leisure student, Anapolsky has had 137 receptions in the last two years.
After spotting Waterloo a seven-point lead, the Blues led 19-11 at halftime before scoring 21 unanswered points in the third quarter. Toronto won its last three games to finis the season 4-4, tied with Windsor, a 45-15 loser Saturday in Ottawa, but the Lancers gained the final playoff berth by virtue of a 26-11 win over the Blues Sept. 21.
At London, meanwhile, the Western Mustangs completed their first undefeated season since 1998 with a 50-10 win over the York Lions. It was the seventh time in eight games the No.1-ranked Mustangs scored 50 points or more.
In another onslaught on the record books, the Mustangs ended the season with 458 points (surpassing the OUA record of 424 set in 2003 by McMaster), Will Finch passed for 547 yards to finish the year with 3,047, breaking the Canadian single-season record of 3,033 formerly held by former Western quarterback Michael Faulds.
Finch also set a new Ontario conference record by ending the season with a .697 completion percentage.
Western's fifth-year kicker Lirim Hajrullahu kicked five field goals on a day when he would get 20 points and become the all-time CIS scoring leader, breaking a record held by Ottawa's Neil Lumsden since 1975, when he ended a four-career with 410 points.
Western led 26-0 at halftime and 40-0 before York kicked a field goal late in the third quarter. Of the Mustangs' 749 total yards, only 109 came on the ground as Finch threw the ball 48 times, completing 32 of them. He had three touchdowns and threw three interceptions, two of which were picked off by Connor Pritty.
Western's George Johnson had 13 catches for 226 yards, second-best receiving day in the OUA this year. Matt Uren, who had just seven catches in three games before he was hurt, had 10 catches for 170 yards in his first game back in the Mustangs' lineup.
Myles Gibbon completed 18 of 33 passes for 232 yards for York, and was also his team's leading rusher, with 80 yards.
In other games Saturday, the Queen's Golden Gaels clinched second place with a come-from-behind 37-23 win over the visiting Guelph Gryphons and the McMaster Marauders defeated the Carleton Ravens 45-3.
In Ottawa, the Marauders scored 17 points in the last six minutes of the first quarter to break the game open. Quarterback Marshall Ferguson was 21-for-35 for 210 yards, spreading the work among seven receivers, but he threw four interceptions.
Kasean Davis-Reynolds carried 16 times for 105 yards and a pair of first-quarter touchdowns for McMaster, which intercepted five passes against a pair of Carleton quarterbacks.
Across town, Ottawa amassed 583 yards of offence and allowed the visiting Lancers just three first downs in the first half. Aaron Colbon was 17-of-27 for 275 yards for the Gee-Gees, with Nicolas Dagher the favourite target, with five catches for 114 yards.
Windsor quarterback Austin Kennedy completed 17 of 31 passes for 214 yards. He didn't throw an interception but he was sacked seven times, three times by Ettore Lattanzio.
Kingston's Lewis Ward kicked three field goals for the Gee-Gees, from 26, 32 and a career-best 39 yards. With 67 points the Bayridge Secondary School grad stands eighth in the nation in scoring.
Next week, McMaster, 5-3, will host Ottawa, also 5-3, in one quarter-final while Windsor, 4-4, will play at Guelph, which ended the year 7-1 after its 14-game regular-season win streak came to an end.
Western, 8-0, and Queen's, 7-1, will take the week off awaiting semifinal opponents for games they'll host on Nov. 2.
