Queen's moves up one spot in national football poll
Posted: October 22nd, 2013 @ 7:30pm
Queen's Golden Gaels moved up one spot to No. 4 in this week's ranking of Canadian university football teams, announced Tuesday by Canadian Interuniversity Sport.
The Gaels, 7-1, traded places with Guelph after their 38-23 victory over the Gryphons at home Saturday.
For the fourth week in a row Western tops the national poll of University Football Reporters of Canada, with 20 of the 30 first-place votes. Laval, with the other 10 first-place votes, remains No. 2, one spot ahead of the country's only other remaining undefeated team, Canada West-leading Calgary.
Manitoba's 33-26 upset of No. 7-ranked Saskatchewan Friday night - in a game where the score was tied twice and there were five lead changes - played havoc with the bottom of the Top 10, as the Huskies fell three spots to No. 10.
Bishop's and McMaster each moved up a spot and after a two-week absence, Manitoba, a team that has neither won nor lost two games in a row all season, returned to the national list at No. 9.
For the eighth time in nine weeks, the top 10 is without a team from the Atlantic conference.
Playoffs begin Saturday in Ontario with two quarter-final games, while this will be the final weekend of the regular schedule in the other three conferences.
