Stingers coach Gerry McGrath retires
Posted: October 27th, 2013 @ 1:50am
The man who replaced Pat Sheahan as coach of the Concordia Stingers is retiring. Gerry McGrath made the announcement Saturday after his team ended a winless season with a 28-21 loss at Sherbrooke.
McGrath, 54, served eight years as the Stingers offensive co-ordinator under Sheahan and he took over the top job when Sheahan moved to Kingston in 2000 to coach the Queen's Golden Gaels.
McGrath began his coaching career after seven years as a kicker in the Canadian Football League. The Stingers were 58-57 in his 14 years at the helm. He was named Quebec conference coach of the year in 2003 and 2006 but Concordia was 1-16 since 2011.
McGrath will remain with the school's athletics department to assist with preparations for the 2014 season, the university said in a statement. Related Articles:
