Pogue, Reid win provincial field hockey awards

Two members of the Queen's Golden Gaels received individual awards at the Ontario University Athletics women's field hockey championship tournament this weekend in Toronto.
Kara Pogue is the Ontario nominee for the Gail Wilson Award for outstanding contribution to the community and the sport of field hockey. Queen's coach Mary-Anne Reid is the conference's coach of the year.
A fourth-year life sciences student from Haliburton, Ont., Pogue is the second Queen's player in as many years to be a finalist for the Wilson award, following Allison Wallis in 2012. Pogue is involved in the Queen's chapter of Athletes In Action, a faith-based group dedicated to helping athletes integrate their faith with their participation in high performance sport.
A four-time academic all-Canadian, Pogue represented the organization at the World Student Games in Russia last summer.
Reid, a graduate of La Salle Secondary School and a former provincial team player, led the Gaels to within a game of .500 this year (3-4-5) after Queen's won just two of 24 games in the past two seasons.
The provincial championship tournament concluded Sunday afternoon with the Guelph Gryphons defeating the Waterloo Warriors 4-1 in the gold-medal game. Both teams qualified for the Canadian Interuniversity Sport tournament, starting Thursday in Victoria.
