Regi still alive at OFSAA field hockey championship
Posted: October 31st, 2013 @ 6:59pm
Regiopolis Notre Dame Panthers have a loss and a tie to show for their two games on the opening day of the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations field hockey championship in Waterloo.
As rain fell throughout the day, the Panthers, Kingston Area and Eastern Ontario champions, were defeated 2-0 in their first game by fifth-seeded Goderich. Regi then rallied in the afternoon to gain a scoreless tie with the tournament's No. 4 seed, Ottawa Merivale.
Goderich, which won both of its games Thursday, sits atop the four-team preliminary pool and has already earned its berth in Friday afternoon's quarter-finals. Merivale ended the day with a pair of ties.
Though Regi is still looking for its first goal of the 16-team tournament, the Panthers can still advance to the quarter-final round with a win Friday morning over Malvern of Toronto, if Goderich defeats Merivale in the final round-robin game of the group. Like Regi, Malvern goes into its final preliminary game with a tie and a loss. Related Articles:
