Mary-Anne Reid named CIS field hockey coach of the year
Posted: October 31st, 2013 @ 9:54pm
Queen's Gaels coach Mary-Anne Reid is this year's winner of the Marina Van der Merwe award as Canadian Interuniversity Sport field hockey coach of the year.
In her fourth year coaching the Gaels, Reid, a graduate of La Salle Secondary School, led Queen's to its first playoff berth in six years. In fashioning a 3-4-5 record, with 16 goals and 19 against, the Gaels improved dramatically from 2012, when they were 2-9-1, with just six goals and 44 against.
In announcing the award, the CIS made note of Reid's work in the greater the field hockey community, specifically her work connecting with Queen's field hockey alumni and the establishment of an alumni Homecoming event. She also took the Gaels on an exhibition tour of Scotland and Northern Ireland last summer.
Queen's athletics director Leslie Dal Cin called the award a fitting tribute.
"It's a tremendous honour to be acknowledged by one's coaching peers," Dal Cin said, in a release. "She is a dedicated individual who has committed herself to professional development, mentorship and the development of her team." Related Articles:
