Bayridge victory sends Blazers into the playoffs a .500 team

Posted: October 31st, 2013 @ 10:35pm

Two teams going in opposite directions ended the regular Kingston Area Secondary Schools Athletic Association senior girls basketball schedule Thursday.

Alex Leggett scored 15 points to lead the Bayridge Blazers to a 41-25 win over the Loyalist Lancers at Bayridge. The Blazers finished the season at .500 (5-5) by winning three of their final four games.

After a 3-1 start, Loyalist ended the campaign with six straight defeats and the Lancers will pay for that by having to face the undefeated Panthers at Regiopolis Notre Dame in a quarter-final Tuesday.

On Thursday LC was led offensively by Kristina Walker, who scored 10 points.

Bayridge will travel to Sydenham Tuesday for its quarter-final game, where they'll face the Golden Eagles, 40-33 winners over the Kingston Blues in Thursday's other game. Sydenham finished the regular year 8-2.

The second-place La Salle Black Knights, 8-2, will host KC, 4-6, while defending champion Holy Cross, 7-3, will play at Frontenac, also 7-3, in Tuesday's other quarter-finals.
