Hockey Gaels edged in shootout; RMC thumped by McGill

They've yet to suffer their first regulation-time defeat this year, but you can bet the Queen's Golden Gaels are getting tired of shootouts.
The Gaels lost their second shootout of the young season Friday night when the Ottawa Gee-Gees prevailed 1-0 for a 2-1 Ontario University Athletics men's hockey victory in Ottawa.
Alexandre Touchette was the only player to score in the shootout.
After a scoreless first period, Touchette assisted on a goal by Stephen Blunden. Andrew Wiebe scored his first goal of the season for Queen's in the seventh minute of the third period.
Kevin Baillie made 40 saves tending the Queen's goal, as the home team outshot the Gaels 41-22, including 2-1 in a scoreless five-minute overtime.
Meanwhile, at the Constantine Arena, Royal Military Paladins goalkeeper Evan Deviller made 66 saves but his valiant effort was in vain as the McGill Redmen gained a 9-1 victory.
McGill, the No. 6-ranked team in Canada, outshot RMC 75-20 - including 27-4 in the first period - as the Redmen scored three times in each period.
David Rose and Ryan McKiernan scored twice each for McGill, while Jan Kaminsky had a goal and three assists. Chris Smerek spoiled Redmen goaltender Jacob Chouinard's shutout bid at 11:32 of the third period.
The outcomes leave McGill, 4-1-1, and Queen's, 3-0-3, tied atop the East division standings with nine points apiece. The Gaels will resume play when they host Ontario Tech Saturday night at the Memorial Centre at 7:30.
RMC will seek to end its season-long seven-game losing streak Saturday night at Ottawa.
