Frontenacs 50th
 Posted: February 27th, 2013 @ 9:40am
Today's installment in a daily series that recalls the story of the 1962-63 Kingston Frontenacs, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of their Eastern Professional Hockey League championship season:
Fifty years ago today, Wednesday, Feb. 27, 1963
A masked, one-eyed goaltender made Kingston's 3-1 win over the St. Paul Saints at the Community Centre a game to remember. Jacques Marcotte, a top prospect in the Toronto Maple Leafs organization before he was struck by a puck and lost an eye in training camp one year, faced 69 shots in the losing cause.
Pete Panagabko, Jean-Paul Parise and Don Blackburn scored for Kingston and Harry Sinden had two assists as the Frontenacs moved two points ahead of idle Hull-Ottawa into sole possession of first place, heading into a weekend home-and-home series with the Canadiens.
Panagabko, Kingston's 5-foot-9, 170 pound winger, has regained the scoring touch he lost when he separated a shoulder early in the season. One of just two four-year members of the Frontenacs - Gerry (Red) Ouellette is the other - Panagabko began the season with four goals and 14 points in the first 10 games of the campaign and now he's failed to get a point only once in the Frontenacs' last nine games. In between, however, he struggled, scoring just one goal in the first month back from his injury. Related Articles:
