Peters, Caron named to conference all-star teams

Posted: November 8th, 2013 @ 11:06pm

Two Kingston high school products are among players named this week to their respective conference all-star football teams.

Sydenham High School grad Hayden Peters, in his second season with the St. Francis Xavier X-Men, is the all-star punter in the Atlantic conference. A former member of the Limestone Grenadiers, Peters led the league with a 37.1-yard per punt average.

Max Caron, the 2011 President's Trophy winner, has been named an all-star linebacker in the Quebec conference for the second time. A graduate of Frontenac Secondary School, Caron had 43.5 tackles this season for the Concordia Stingers, sixth-best in the league, three quarterback sacks and six tackles for loss.

Hayden and Caron join Napanee District Secondary School grad Derek Morris and Holy Cross Secondary School product Josh Prinsen of Queen's, earlier named to the Ontario University Athletics all-star team at guard and tackle, respectively, as Kingston-area high school products honoured by their respective conferences.

As well, Queen's receiver Aaron Gazendam, also from Holy Cross, is the Ontario nominee for the Russ Jackson Award, presented to the player who best exemplifies athletic ability, academic achievement and citizenship.
