Overtime continues to be no friend of hockey Gaels

As unkind as the value-added portion of their Ontario University Athletics hockey games has been to the Queen's Golden Gaels, they can't seem to help themselves.
For the sixth time in 12 games this year, the Gaels allowed their game Saturday night to go into overtime. Like Bart Simpson reaching for the electrified cupcake, they again got zapped.
A goal by Matt Clarke, the former London Knights and minor pro defenceman, with just 18 seconds left in the five-minute overtime period lifted the Western Mustangs to a 2-1 home-ice victory. The loss ended a three-game win streak for Queen's, which remains the only team in Ontario without a regulation-time defeat.
In the six games that have extended past the third period, the Gaels are 1-2 in overtime and 0-3 in shootouts.
A power-play goal by Daniel Erlich midway through the first period opened scoring for the No. 10-ranked Mustangs, who improved their record to 7-3. An unassisted, shorthanded tally by Kelly Jackson late in the second period tied the game for Queen's, now 6-0-5.
It was Jackson's team-leading sixth goal of the season.
After a scoreless third period, where the Gaels outshot the home team 8-5, Western tested Queen's goalie Kevin Baillie four times in overtime while holding the visitors to just two shots on Mustangs netminder Josh Unice.
If anything has been more predictable this year than Queen's games going into overtime, it would be the Royal Military College Paladins losing. Winless RMC dropped its 12th game in a row Saturday night, 4-1 to the Toronto Blues.
For the second time in two nights, Paladins goaltender Paul Dorsey was under siege, facing 47 shots. On Friday night, the Ryerson Rams peppered him with 59 shots.
Varsity scored in the game's first minute and two goals in the second period sent Toronto into the third with a 3-0 lead. John Livingston's power-play goal, his first of the season, with four and a half minutes left in the game gave RMC a flicker of hope but that proved to be all. With Dorsey on the bench the home team scored an empty-net goal in the game's final second.
RMC will entertain Western at the Constantine Arena at 7 o'clock Friday night, while the Gaels will host the Windsor Lancers at 7:30 at the Memorial Centre.
