Hockey Gaels get overtime win in Oshawa

Queen's Golden Gaels resume their Ontario University Athletics men's hockey schedule Saturday night when they visit the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks in Waterloo.
The Gaels opened the second half of the season Friday night with a 3-2 win over the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks in Oshawa. A goal by Harrison Hendrix with just 50 seconds left in a five-minute overtime period gave Queen's the victory, one that enabled the Gaels to expand their lead atop the East division standings to four points over McGill.
The Redmen dropped a 3-2 decision Friday night to Carleton.
Eighth ranked Queen's, 11-0-5, remains one of just two teams in Canada - No. 1-ranked Calgary is the other - without a regulation-time defeat.
Overtime had not been kind to the Gaels in the early part of the schedule, as they dropped their first four - and five of the first six games - that went to overtime or a shootout. Since then, however, Queen's has won three of its last four extra-time games.
It took just 20 seconds for Tyler Moore to open the scoring for Queen's on Friday, and by the time the game was six minutes old Patrick McGillis had given the Gaels a 2-0 lead. Jordan Ramsay scored for Tech before the end of the period and a goal by Jesse Stoughton late in the second period tied the game.
Queen's outshot the home team 16-4 in a scoreless third period.
Braeden Corbeth drew his second assist of the game on Hendrix's game-winner, a goal that avenged a 3-2 shootout loss to Tech at the Memorial Centre in early November. The loss left the Ridgebacks sixth in the East division at 5-8-3.
Gaels goalie Kevin Bailie got his eighth win of the year, getting the best of Colin Dzijacky of the Ridgebacks as Queen's outshot Tech 38-25.
Tonight's game will be the only meeting of the year between the Gaels and Laurier. At 5-8-1, the Hawks are the last-place team in the West division of the OUA.
The Royal Military College Paladins, meanwhile, resume their season Sunday afternoon. RMC, still seeking its first win of the season, will host the Ottawa Gee-Gees, 10-5-1, in a 5 o'clock game at Constantine Arena.
