Queen's basketball men, women both defeated

Ryerson Rams scored 25 points in the first quarter to take a 15-point lead they ultimately rode to an 81-61 Ontario University Athletics men's basketball victory over the Queen's Golden Gaels Friday night at the Queen's Athletics and Recreation Centre.
In winning for the 10th time in 11 games, the fourth-ranked Rams led 46-27 at halftime.
The Gaels didn't score until more than five minutes had been played in the first quarter when Roshane Roberts sank a pair of free throws. Queen's drew to within nine points late in the third quarter but the Gaels could get no closer.
Jahmal Jones scored 31 points for Ryerson, 11 more than his season average. The fourth-year guard from Mississauga, the fifth-leading scorer in Canada, has cracked the 30-point plateau three times this year.
Aaron Best added 15 points for the Rams.
Nikola Misljencevic led Queen's with 19 points and Supreet Singh scored 14 as the Gaels shot less than 33 per cent from the field.
Queen's leading scorer, Greg Faulkner, managed to score just six points, the first time this year he has failed to score in double digits.
The Gaels, who opened the season with three consecutive victories, lost for the second game in a row and are now 6-5. Tonight at 8 o'clock they will host the Toronto Blues, who fell to 2-9 Friday night when they lost 85-70 to York.

Keneca Pingue-Giles came off the bench to score a season-best 25 points to lead the Ryerson Rams to a 70-67 Ontario University Athletics women's basketball win over the Queen's Golden Gaels Friday night.
Ryerson, 4-7, had lost five of its previous six games. Queen's, now 7-4, had won its previous five in a row.
The teams were tied 33-33 at the end of the first half, during which the lead changed hands several times. Queen's trailed by as much as 11 points in the fourth quarter but the Gaels, largely on the strength of back-to-back three-point baskets by Gemma Bullard and Liz Boag, closed to within two points with eight seconds to play. Ryerson clinched the win from the free-throw line.
Pingue-Giles, a third-year guard from Winnipeg, was 7-for-15 from the field, scored a pair of three-point baskets and was 9-for-14 from the free throw line.
Four Gaels reached double figures in scoring: Bullard, with 14 points, Robyn Pearson, with 13, Boag, with 12, and Emily Hazlett, who came off the bench to score 11. Pearson also had nine rebounds and blocked three shots before fouling out of the game.
Tonight the Gaels resume play when they will host the Toronto Blues at 6 o'clock.
