Greg Faulkner superb in victory over Toronto

Posted: January 12th, 2014 @ 12:29am

Greg Faulkner made amends Saturday night.

One night after he failed to reach double figures in scoring for the first time this season, Faulkner erupted for 37 points to lead the Queen's Golden Gaels to an 84-64 Ontario University Athletics basketball win over the Toronto Blues at the Queen's Athletics and Recreation Centre.

Faulkner, whose best previous game this year was 23 points against Guelph Nov. 2, was a splendid 17-for-22 from the field and 3-for-7 from three-point range.

Queen's, 7-5, got an early spark from Roshane Roberts, who scored a pair of early three-point baskets to send his team on its way to a 23-point first quarter and a six-point lead the Gaels would maintain through the first half.

Roberts finished the game with 14 points.

Overall, the Gaels were 12-for-32 from beyond the arc.

Toronto's Alex Hill, the league's leading scorer, led the Varsity Blues with 23 points, though he was just 8-for-18 from the field and committed five turnovers. Denis Ankrah added 14 points to the attack for Toronto, which slipped to 5-8.

Queen's will resume play Friday night at Laurentian.
