Posted: January 13th, 2014 @ 12:23am
La Salle Black Knights advanced to the semifinals before bowing out of the 10th annual Jaguar Classic high school boys basketball tournament Sunday in Ottawa.
La Salle, the only Kingston team at the four-day, 48-team event, emerged from pool play undefeated and they then beat Ottawa Sacred Heart 61-53 in the quarter-finals to earn a semifinal berth against West Carleton, a triple-A school from Richmond. In a game that had controversial calls at the end of regulation time and overtime, the Knights were eliminated by a 67-65 defeat.
In that game La Salle was led by Jesse Graham, who scored 23 points and pulled down 11 rebounds, Tanner Graham (18 points, 10 rebounds) and Braden Elliot, who scored nine points. Corey Johnson, one of two members of the provincial team playing for West Carleton, led all scorers with 25 points.
In the final, West Carleton bowed 58-46 to Ottawa Merivale
Jesse Graham was La Salle's top scorer in each game, with 15 points in a tournament-opening 59-32 victory over Ottawa All Saints, 38 points - plus 15 rebounds - in a 78-58 win over Ottawa Islamic and 16 points in the quarter-final triumph over Sacred Heart.
Tanner Graham reached double figures in both of the preliminary round games, 14 and 17 points, respectively, while Bruce Burns scored 12 in the quarter-final victory.
Now 21-2 in league and tournament play this year, La Salle, undefeated in the Kingston Area Secondary Schools Athletic Association, will resume league play Tuesday at Sydenham. Related Articles:
