Three Gaels, Max Caron on list of top prospects for this year's CFL draft

Posted: January 14th, 2014 @ 8:13pm

Three members of the Queen's Golden Gaels, as well as Frontenac Secondary School grad Max Caron, are among those listed in the Canadian Football League Scouting Bureau's top 15 prospects eligible for this spring's draft.

As he was in the autumn list, defensive back Andrew Lue is the eighth-ranked prospect - but the No. 1 at his position - according to the bureau. Linebacker Sam Sabourin and defensive lineman Derek Wiggan are listed 12th and 14th, respectively.

Caron, a linebacker with the Concordia Stingers, is ranked 10th, the second linebacker on the list behind Western's Beau Landry.

Queen's is the only school to have three players appear among the Top 15.

For the second-straight ranking, McGill offensive lineman Laurent Duvernay-Tardif is the top-ranked prospect. Duvernay-Tardif is followed by two other offensive linemen from the Quebec conference, Pierre Lavertu from Laval and David Foucault from Montreal.

The top non-lineman is St. Francis Xavier wide receiver Devon Bailey, who is ranked fourth.

The CFL's Scouting Bureau is comprised of CFL scouts, player personnel directors and general managers from the league's nine teams. All 15 ranked players on last year's winter list were selected in the 2013 CFL draft, seven of them in the first round.

The date for this year's draft has not been determined.
