Hockey Crusaders stay unbeaten after shootout
Posted: January 17th, 2014 @ 10:47am
Despite being without nine players due to injury and tournament commitments elsewhere, the Holy Cross Crusaders defeated the Napanee Golden Hawks 4-3 in a shootout in a Kingston Area Secondary Schools Athletic Association boys hockey game Thursday at the Strathcona Paper Centre.
Taking advantage of the visitors' depleted lineup, Napanee jumped to a 3-0 lead midway through the game, thanks to goals by Ryan Smith, Logan Drew and Brock Clarke. Holy Cross answered with goals from Devon King, Jake Morley and Wyatt Plain.
It took six rounds of a shootout to decide a winner. Holy Cross goaltender Matt Villalta stopped all six Napanee attempts while Hawks goalie Tyler Carey stopped five shots in a row before being beaten for the game-winner by Mack Hancock.
