Basketball men eliminated at Ryerson; women to host Toronto Saturday
Posted: February 20th, 2014 @ 1:25am
Queen's Golden Gaels were eliminated from Ontario University Athletics men's basketball playoffs Wednesday night when they dropped an 86-76 decision to the No. 8 Ryerson Rams in Toronto.
It's the second year in a row that the Gaels were ousted from the playoffs in the first round.
Queen's trailed by five points after the first quarter but an 11-2 run early in the second quarter had the Gaels leading 27-25. That was as good as it got for the visitors, however, as the Rams promptly scored the next 10 points and effectively put the game away with a 29-point third quarter.
Roshane Roberts scored 20 points for Queen's, 13 of them in the fourth quarter. Nikola Misljencevic added 19.
Ryerson, who had five players score in double digits, got 20 points from Jamal Jones, 10 of them in the fourth quarter.
Queen's women will host the Toronto Blues at 6 p.m. Saturday in an East division semifinal. The Blues, 69-66 winners Wednesday over Ryerson in a division quarter-final, finished fourth in the regular season at 12-10. The teams split their games this year, with first-place Queen's, 16-6, losing by 14 points at home Jan. 11 and winning by five points at Toronto last Friday. Related Articles:
