Julie-Anne Staehli of Queen's, Sydenham grad Wade Embury double medalists at OUA track championships

Julie-Anne Staehli of Queen's won her second medal of the meet Saturday, bronze in the women's 1,500 metres, at the Ontario University Athletics track and field championships in Toronto.
Staehli finished the race in four minutes 29.85 seconds, just five one-hundredths of a second behind silver medalist Carise Thompson of Guelph and a little more than a second behind Gabriella Stafford of Toronto, who won the race in 4:28.71.
That bronze medal followed Staehli's gold-medal performance Friday night in the women's 3,000 metres, after which she was joined on the podium by teammate Victoria Coates, who finished third.
Staehli won that race in 9 minutes 32.68 seconds, this time eight-tenths of a second ahead of Thompson. Coates was three seconds off the pace at 9:35.88.
Coates also was seventh in the 1,500 metres.
The top two athletes in each event qualified for the Canadian Internuniversity Sport championships in Edmonton, March 6-8, as did other athletes who achieved a minimum standard in their respective events.
Sydenham High School grad Wade Embury, a freshman at Ottawa, was a double bronze medalist at the two-day event. He was third Friday in the men's 300 metres, stopping the clock at 35.13 seconds, five one-hundredths of a second behind silver medalist Jameel Brown of York. Dantae Richards-Kwok of York won the race in 34.24 seconds.
Embury was also a member of Ottawa's bronze-medal winning 3,200-metre relay team, which surpassed the standard in 3 minutes 17.51 seconds.
Two other former Sydenham athletes had Top 10 performances: Julie Sleeth, now of Western, who was ninth in women's shot put and 10th in weight throw, and Jeff Archer of Queen's, who was ninth in the men's 3,000 metres.
Alex Wilkie of Queen's was eighth in the men's 3,000 metres and ninth in the's 1,500 metres; Ernestown Secondary School grad Blair Morgan of McMaster was 13th in the men's 3,000 metres, and Kingston native Connor Outhit, now at Toronto, was a member of that school's fourth-place 3,200-metre relay team.
