 Posted: February 24th, 2014 @ 9:07am
Regiopolis Notre Dame grad Abbi Finnan was named Atlantic University Sport female athletics rookie of the year after winning three gold medals for St. Francis Xavier at the conference track and field championships, a two-day meet that ended Sunday at Moncton.
Finnan had the second-fastest time in the women's 60 metres Saturday but she lowered that by a tenth of a second in the final, winning in 7.87 seconds, three one-hundredths of a second ahead of runner-up Sydney Smith of Dalhousie.
Sunday in the 60-metre hurdles, Finnan won in 9.49 seconds, with a 16 one-hundredths cushion over the second-place runner, Sarah Taplin of Dalhouse.
Finnan capped her day by being part of X's winning team in the women's 800-metre relay.
Her performances helped St. F.X. finish second in the overall team standing.
With her victories, Finnan qualified for the Canadian Interuniversity Sport championships, March 6-8 in Edmonton. Related Articles:
