Crusaders to contest both KASSAA hockey finals
Posted: February 26th, 2014 @ 10:21pm
Holy Cross will compete for both the boys and girls high school hockey championships Friday, after posting impressive victories in Kingston Area Secondary Schools Athletic Association semifinals Wednesday.
In boys play at the Invista Centre, the Crusaders broke open a one-goal game with five unanswered goals to defeat the Napanee Golden Hawks 7-1, while the La Salle Black Knights dumped the Regiopolis Notre Dame Panthers 5-1.
Holy Cross, 8-0 in the regular year, got a goal from Wyatt Plain just 53 seconds into Thursday's game but Griffen Conger replied for Napanee just 20 seconds later. The Golden Hawks, 5-3, weren't able to solve Crusaders goaltender Quinn Cota after that, however. Holy Cross got a goal from Colin Tonge, his first of two, before the first period ended and led 4-1 going into the third.
Jake St. Peter, Brandon Nadeau, Matt Marino and Devon King shared the other Crusaders goals.
La Salle, beaten 8-1 by Holy Cross on opening day in December but winner of six of its next seven after that, will try to avenge that defeat Friday at 1 p.m. at the Invista Centre.

In the girls final Friday at 1:30, also at Invista, Holy Cross will face Napanee. The Crusaders, unbeaten in the regular season, defeated the Frontenac Falcons 5-0 Wednesday, while the Golden Hawks, playing at the Strathcona Paper Centre, beat Regi 5-1.
When the teams met in December, Napanee, 5-2 in the regular year, bowed 2-0 to Holy Cross at Napanee. Related Articles:
