Gaels drop women's basketball championship game

Queen's Golden Gaels gave up 23 points in the first quarter and that put the Windsor Lancers on their way to a 73-48 victory in the Ontario University Athletics women's basketball championship game in Windsor.
The nation's No. 1-ranked team, Windsor - which hasn't lost since dropping the first game of the season to Carleton Nov.1 - won for the 24th game in a row. For the East division-champion Gaels, the loss ended a nine-game winning streak.
The Lancers scored the first nine points of the game Saturday night, and they led 23-7 at the end of the first quarter. Though Queen's played the home team even in the second, the Gaels began the second half trailing by 16, 43-27.
Windsor put the game away with a 10-2 run to start the third quarter.
The Lancers, who defeated Queen's 82-56 in the regular season, won their second straight OUA championship, their fifth in the last six years.
Miah-Marie Langlois led Windsor with 25 points, while Jessica Clemencon scored 21, 11 of them in the second quarter.
Liz Boag and Jenny Wright scored 17 points apiece for Queen's, which was out-rebounded 52-33, including 35-5 under the Windsor glass.
As champions of their respective divisions, both the Gaels and Lancers will play in the Canadian Interuniversity Sport championship tournament, starting Friday in Windsor. The tournament draw will be released Monday.
