Posted: March 21st, 2014 @ 5:24pm

Mackenzie McCullough stopped all 20 shots she faced Friday afternoon to back Saltfleet to a 1-0 win over the Holy Cross Crusaders in the gold-medal game at the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations girls AAA/AAAA championship in Sudbury.

McCullough's goaltending made a goal late in the first period by Hunter French good for the victory. Saltfleet finished the three-day event 5-0-1, the only blemish a 1-1 tie with Holy Cross in the preliminary round.

It was the first loss in six games for the Crusaders, who will come home from the three-day event with the silver medals.

Friday morning Holy Cross, the second-seeded team at the 16-team tournament, defeated Guelph Centennial 2-0 in a semifinal game. Shelby Perry, with her sixth goal of the tournament, and Megan McGuire scored for Holy Cross.

Brooke Madigan made 26 saves for the shutout, the second for the Crusaders in the playoff round and their third in the tournament. In compiling a 4-1-1 record, Holy Cross allowed just three goals.

In the other semifinal, Saltfleet defeated Medway of Arva, near London, 2-0.
