Tim Bergin helps Niagara to Creator's Cup title
Posted: April 6th, 2014 @ 3:26pm
Kingston's Tim Bergin had a goal and two assists Friday night, helping the Niagara Lockmonsters to a 10-9 win over the Oshweken Demons in the championship game of the Canadian Lacrosse League at Hagersville, Ont.
In capturing the Creator's Cup, Niagara overcame a 9-5 deficit with four goals in the final eight minutes of the fourth quarter. Bergin, a graduate of the Kingston Lacrosse Association and a charter member of the modern Kingston Kings, assisted on two of those goals.
A goal by Kavan Sullivan in the second minute of sudden-death overtime gave Niagara the victory.
The game was a mirror image of the Lockmonsters' previous game, when they blew an 8-2 lead and had to score in the final three minutes to gain a 9-8 semifinal win over Barrie. In that game Bergin had a goal and an assist.
Bergin had 12 goals, second best on the team, and 20 points, fourth best on the team, in eight regular-season games with the Lock Monsters, who finished second to Oshweken in the regular year.
The CLAX league, as it's known, is a semiprofessional senior league with five teams in south-central Ontario. Related Articles:
