Sydenham senior girls move into first-place tie
Posted: April 30th, 2014 @ 12:10am
Sydenham Golden Eagles moved into a first-place tie with the idle Frontenac Falcons Tuesday with a 2-0 win over the La Salle Black Knights in a Kingston Area Secondary Schools Athletic Association senior girls soccer game at Caraco Field.
Both teams are 3-0; Frontenac has yet to allow a goal while Sydenham has permitted just one.
On a miserable, rainy afternoon, Michelle Walsh scored both goals for Sydenham, in front of the shutout goaltending of Ashley Grant.
In other games Tuesday, the Ernestown Eagles gained their first win of the season, 1-0 over the Napanee Golden Hawks; the Holy Cross Crusaders blanked the Kingston Blues 2-0 and the Regiopolis Notre Dame Panthers whipped the Marie-Rivier Dragons 8-0.
Ashley Morrow scored the game's only goal as Ernestown, 1-3, sent Napanee to its third straight defeat at the Queen's University upper West Campus field. Stefani Evans posted the shutout for the Eagles.
In a game at Tindall Field, Holy Cross won its second game in a row thanks to goals by Christina Papadakis and Marily Doherty.
Six goals in the first half sent Regi on its way to its second win without defeat at West Campus. Bridget Mulholland scored three times and Emily Rowsell twice for the Panthers, who got their other goals from Kaitlyn Balfour, Emily Drouin and Zoe Tremblay. Goalkeeper Kristina Nuvoloni posted her second shutout of the young season.

In Tuesday's only senior boys game, Holy Cross moved into a first-place tie with Sydenham and Frontenac with a 5-0 win over Marie-Rivier at Tindall Field.
With goals from Santiago Rivera, Adam Alcorn, Zac Hutcheson, Eric Freitas and Emmanuel Onwueomeodo, the Crusaders improved to 3-0 and sent the Dragons to their third straight defeat. The clean sheet was shared by Miguel Martins and Mitchell Barr.
