Riley Filion of Queen's scores for East in women's soccer all-star match
Posted: May 4th, 2014 @ 4:16pm
Three goals in the second half - one of them by Riley Filion of Queen's - enabled the East to defeat the West 3-2 in the second annual Ontario University Athletics women's soccer all-star game Saturday in Vaughan.
The West got the only goal of the first half, but Royal Military College goalkeeper Alex Hogg withstood some late pressure to keep the East's deficit to 1-0 by halftime.
Filion tied the score in the game's 55th minute with a shot from 30 yards out and then her Queen's teammate, Alexis McKinty, drew a defender and fed a pass to Carleton's Adrianna Ruggerio for the go-ahead goal from just inside the 18-yard box.
The East took a 3-1 lead in the 77th minute. In the dying seconds Hogg had a ball go off her fingertips right to Western's Amanda Boyle, who tapped it in for the final goal of the game.
