Impact midgets win Ontario Cup opener
Posted: May 24th, 2014 @ 3:00am
Kingston Impact is one win away from advancing to the medal round at the Ontario Basketball midget boys championship tournament.
Getting six points or more from seven different players, the Impact defeated the Oakville Venom 61-48 in first-round Division 6 play Friday night in the Queen's University Bews Gym.
Kingston led by seven points after the first quarter but that lead had been cut to four, 30-26, by halftime. The Impact outscored the visitors 18-10 in the third quarter and took that lead to the end.
Sam Pierson led Kingston with 11 points.
"We won the rebounding battle, which really separated us," Impact coach Brett Walsh said.
Kingston will play the loser of the first-round match between the Gloucester Wolverines and Mississauga Monarchs in Bews Gym at noon today. The winner will advance to the medal round.
