Impact reaches semifinal round of Ontario Cup basketball tournament

Kingston Impact blew three big leads - including an eight-point advantage in overtime - but the players collected themselves each time and they emerged with a 65-62 victory over the Gloucester Wolverines in second-round play at the Ontario Cup midget boys basketball tournament Saturday afternoon.
The win, significant for the fact it put the Impact into the Division 6 semifinals at 4:30 against top-seeded Guelph, was sweet for having avenged an 11-point defeat at the hands of the Wolverines earlier this season.
Kingston led by seven points, 28-21, at halftime but Gloucester cut the gap to a single point going into the fourth quarter and at the end of regulation time the teams were tied 54-54.
Before a standing room only crowd in Bews Gym at Queen's University, Matt Brash scored 24 points to lead the Impact to its second straight victory. Eric Lusk added 11 points for Kingston, while Reegan Comeau played his best game of the season, coach Brett Walsh said, especially with respect to his work defensively and under the glass.
The championship game will be played Sunday afternoon at 1:30 in Bews Gym.
