Morgan McHaffie named all-Canadian

Posted: March 7th, 2013 @ 4:40pm

Morgan McHaffie of the OUA champion Queen's Golden Gaels has been named a second-team all-Canadian women's hockey player. The announcement was made Wednesday night in Toronto, on the eve of the Canadian Interuniversity Sport championship tournament.

McHaffie, a fourth-year centre from Guelph, was third in the Ontario conference in scoring, seventh in Canada, with 12 goals and 33 points in 26 regular-season games. She also led the nation with 56 minutes in penalties.

A three-time OUA all-star, McHaffie enjoyed her season high-water mark with five points in a 6-1 series-clinching victory over Windsor in the conference quarter-finals.

The Gaels will ride a six-game playoff winning streak into their first game of the tournament Friday afternoon, when they will face St. Francis Xavier. The X-Women, who gave up only 23 goals in 24 Atlantic conference games this year, were beaten in their first game Thursday 4-0 by defending champion Calgary. Tanya Moore had a goal and two assists for the Dinos, who scored twice in the first period and twice more in the second.
