Ben Cross wins javelin gold at Canadian Legion track and field
Posted: August 17th, 2014 @ 3:18pm
Ben Cross of the Kingston Track and Field Club won a gold medal Saturday night at the Canadian Legion Track and Field Championships in Langley, B.C.
Cross threw the javelin 55.14 metres with his second attempt and no one could catch him in boys under-18 division. Fifth in June at the Ontario high school championship, Cross improved his performance from that day by almost five metres.
Jordan Ellingson of Langley finished second at 53.72 metres, which, coincidently, is the same distance at which Cross finished second at the provincial Legion meet last month.
Kingston's Hailey Wolfgram, the other local athlete at the meet, finished fifth Saturday in girls under-18 shot put. Her best attempt was 12.48 metres, and it came on her final put. Emily Good of the Laurel Creek club of Kitchener won the competition at 13.36 metres.
