Queen's men end four-game winless skid
Posted: October 1st, 2014 @ 11:29pm
A goal by Jessie de Boer in the game's 71st minute gave the Queen's Golden Gaels a 1-1 tie with the Carleton Ravens in an Ontario University Athletics women's soccer game Wednesday night in Ottawa.
De Boer finished a give-and-go with Tara Bartram with a shot to the top right corner behind Carleton goalkeeper Elizabeth MacDougall. It was the third game in a row that de Boer has scored, and her fourth goal in that time.
The outcome was undoubtedly disappointing for both teams, as they entered the game tied for third place at 5-2-2, just one point ahead of fifth-place Toronto but nine points behind second-place Ontario Tech. Carleton is now undefeated in its last three games, while the Gaels are unbeaten in their last four, but they've also won just two of seven games since Sept. 7.
Queen's resumes play Saturday afternoon in Sudbury, where the Gaels will face the Laurentian Voyageurs.
In men's play Wednesday, the Gaels ended a four-game winless streak with a 2-0 win over Carleton.
After a scoreless first half, Queen's got goals from Henry Bloeman and Will Twardek. Maxfield Materne made five saves for the shutout.
With the win, the Gaels, 6-2-3, moved into a third-place tie with Carleton, one point behind second-place Toronto.
The Queen's men also resume play Saturday at Laurentian. Related Articles:
