Regi defeats Holy Cross in battle of unbeaten basketball teams

Posted: October 3rd, 2014 @ 3:26am

Regiopolis Notre Dame Panthers reign today as the only undefeated senior girls basketball team in the Kingston Area Secondary Schools Athletic Association, after they defeated the Holy Cross Crusaders 48-37 Thursday afternoon at Holy Cross.

The win was the fourth this year without defeat for Regi, while Holy Cross suffered its first loss after opening the season with a three-game winning streak.

Hailey Wolfgram and Rebecca Wendland led the Panthers with 12 points apiece. All of Wendland's points came from four shots beyond the three-point arc.

Jennika Lapierre scored 10 points for Holy Cross.

In Thursday's other senior A game, the La Salle Black Knights drew into a second-place tie with Holy Cross with a 23-17 win over the visiting Sydenham Golden Eagles.

Lilie Dixon, with nine points, and Jamie Mumby, with seven, led La Salle, while Megan Bowman scored eight points for Sydenham, which slipped to 1-4.

In senior B division, the Kingston Blues became the first of five opponents to defeat Loyalist, as they pinned a 39-17 defeat on the Lancers at LC.

KC's Evie Streight scored more than half her team's points, 20, which was enough to defeat Loyalist all by itself.

For the Blues, the win was the third in a row, after they dropped a 23-17 home-court decision to Loyalist on the opening day of the season.
