Regi, Holy Cross to meet for senior girls basketball title
Posted: November 6th, 2014 @ 9:55pm
The top two teams during the regular year will meet for the Kingston Area Secondary Schools Athletic Association senior girls basketball championship Monday night.
The Regiopolis Notre Dame Panthers, undefeated in 12 league and post-season contests, and the Holy Crusaders, whose record is blemished only by two losses to Regi, were both semifinal winners Thursday afternoon in two very different games.
The Panthers had little difficulty disposing of the Frontenac Falcons, 61-28, while in a decidedly more defensive struggle, Holy Cross got past the La Salle Black Knights 29-26.
Monday's final will be played at the Queen's University Athletics and Recreation Centre, beginning at 7 p.m.
Has it has on more than one occasion this year, Regi got points from every player Thursday. Playing at home, the Panthers were led by Bridget Mulholland, who scored 12 points, Annie Kennedy, who scored nine, and Norah Lloyd-Ellis, who scored eight.
Anne Wagar scored nine points for Frontenac, as did Hanna Gazdik, who was heavily taped and braced, having just had a cast removed.
Regi took a commanding 20-4 lead in the first quarter and was never seriously challenged, though the Falcons fought the Panthers to an 8-8 sawoff in the third quarter.
During the season, Regi posted wins of 11 and 26 points over Holy Cross. Related Articles:
