Sydenham advances in EOSSAA football playoffs

Posted: November 8th, 2014 @ 12:24am

Sydenham Golden Eagles built an impressive early lead in their football game Friday afternoon, and it turned out that they needed every bit of it.

On a cold, grey afternoon on the shores of Sydenham Lake, the Golden Eagles emerged from their Eastern Ontario Secondary Schools Athletic Association senior AA semifinal with a 31-28 victory over the Brockville Red Rams.

The win sends Sydenham into next week's EOSSAA championship game against the Upper Ottawa Valley champion, at a time and place to be determined.

By early in the second quarter of Friday's game, Sydenham led 21-0 and the home side was up 24-6 at halftime. Brockville wasn't finished however, scoring on three straight possessions in the fourth quarter-successfully recovering two short kickoffs in the process-to close the gap to just three points.

Sydenham was able to run out the clock, however, to secure its eighth victory, without defeat, this season.
