Regi captures senior girls basketball crown
Posted: November 10th, 2014 @ 11:50pm
For half the ball game, the Holy Cross Crusaders had the Regiopolis Notre Dame Panthers in their sights.
Then came the second half.
Regi, the defending Kingston Area Secondary Schools Athletic Association champion, scored 39 points in the final two periods to defeat the Crusaders 56-28 in the senior girls basketball championship game at the Queen's University Athletics and Recreation Centre.
Bridget Mulholland scored 23 points for the Panthers, who completed the regular season and playoffs 13-0.
Holy Cross, which trailed just 17-15 at halftime, didn't lose to anyone else all season. It was the third loss of the season to Regi, and it came by the largest margin of defeat of the three.
In the junior championship, a valiant comeback by the Sydenham Golden Eagles fell just short as they fell 29-28 to the Frontenac Falcons. Frontenac led 21-9 at halftime but the Falcons were outscored 19-8 in the second half, as Sydenham rallied to tie the game 27-27 before finally succumbing.
