Jenny Wright scored 15 points to lead the Queen’s Golden Gaels to their fifth win in a row, 66-56 over the York Lions Saturday night in an Ontario University Athletics women's basketball game in Toronto.
Liz Boag and Andrea Priamo scored 12 points apiece for Queen’s, as the Gaels improved to 7-3 and moved within four points of East division-leading Ryerson. The Rams, who have played two more games than the Gaels, defeated Algoma 63-31 Saturday.
Poor shooting in the second quarter—the Gaels were successful on just 19 per cent of their attempts from the field—led Queen’s to squander a 10-point and go into the intermission in a 32-32 tie.
With Priamo scoring eight of her points, the Gaels outscored the home team 24-8 in the third quarter but York went on a 13-2 run in the fourth quarter that had the Lions just eight points down with more than three minutes to play.
They could get no closer, however, as they were defeated for the ninth time in their 11 conference games.
Ishanaa Seupersadsin led all scorers in the losing cause, with 19 points for York.
The Gaels return home for two games this weekend, Friday against Toronto and Saturday against No. 9-ranked Ryerson. Both games will tip at 6 p.m.

The Queen’s men, meanwhile, fell to 3-7 Saturday night as they lost 76-63 to York.
Greg Faulkner scored 20 points for Queen’s, while Patrick Street added 13. Nick Tufegdzich had 28 points and 10 rebounds for York.
Tufegdzich was 10-for-11 from the free-throw line on a night when the Lions would hit 88 per cent of their foul shots and the Gaels less than 31 per cent of theirs.
In a 13-point loss, the Gaels were outscored 21-4 from the foul line.
The Gaels trailed by 11 points after the first quarter but they’d closed to trail by just two, 30-28, by halftime, in a rally fuelled by six points apiece from Faulkner and freshman Jesse Graham.
York, 6-5, led by just six points with a little more than seven minutes left in the game when the Lions put it away with a 7-0 run, capped by a three-point play by Tufegdzich.
The Gaels will next play Friday, when they will host the Toronto Blues at 8 o’clock at the Athletics and Recreation Centre. Toronto beat Algoma Saturday night, gaining its third win in seven games this year.
