Former Queen’s Golden Gaels forward Morgan McHaffie scored Canada’s first goal Friday, sending her team on its way to a 7-1 victory over Kazakhstan in the opening game of the women’s hockey tournament at the World Student Games in Granada, Spain.
Canada scored three times in the first period and outshot the Kazakhs 52-10 in the game.
The Canadians’ next game in the seven-team tournament will be Sunday, against Russia.
Canada has won the gold medal at all three women’s hockey tournaments, and is undefeated (21-0) since the sport was added to the Universiade program in 2009.
