Waterloo Warriors continue to bedevil the Queen’s Golden Gaels.

The Warriors got shutout goaltending Sunday afternoon from Stephanie Sluys, who made 26 saves to lead her team to a 2-0 Ontario University Athletics women’s hockey victory at the Memorial Centre.

Waterloo won both games with Queen’s this season, and allowed the Gaels to score just one goal in the process. Sluys also had the 27-save victory in the Warriors’ 2-1 win in Waterloo in November.

Waterloo’s mastery of the No. 4-ranked team in Canada is remarkable in that the Gaels have suffered just four regulation-time losses all season, and the Warriors, even with Sunday’s victory, are a game below .500.

The loss leaves the Gaels, 15-4-3, with 33 points, in sole possession of fourth place, two points behind both Toronto and Guelph, after Guelph beat Windsor 3-0 Sunday afternoon and Toronto defeated Laurentian 7-2.

Marissa Redmond scored Waterloo’s first goal in the game’s 15th minute and Sluys made it stand up. An empty-net goal in the dying seconds sealed the Gaels’ fate.

Queen’s outshot the visitors 26-13.

The Gaels will be in London Friday night to face the league-leading Western Mustangs.
