Liz Boag scored 24 points, her best scoring performance of the season by five points, to lead the Queen’s Golden Gaels to an 83-51 win over the Carleton Ravens in an Ontario University Athletics women’s basketball game Friday night at the Athletics and Recretion Centre.

Boag’s performance included nine points in a 16-0 first-quarter run that helped to put the Gaels squarely in command, 27-6, at the end of the first period, a period in which Queen’s scored on 63 per cent of its shots from the field.

Boag added 13 points in the Gaels’ 26-point third quarter, and she finished the game with five assists and four steals, both also team highs.

Playing without their top scorer, Lindsay Shotbolt, the Ravens weren’t able to get back into the game. They trailed 44-16 at halftime and 70-32 going into the fourth quarter. Only Stephanie Carr, with 13 points, reached double figures in scoring for the Ravens, who fell to 7-9.

Jenny Wright had 15 points for Queen’s, while Abby Dixon scored 12. All 11 Gaels had at least seven minutes of playing time, and all but two of them contributed points.

Queen’s, 10-6, strengthened its grip on second place in the East division, increasing its lead over idle Toronto to four points. The Gaels will host the North division-leading Ottawa Gee-Gees, 11-5 and 79-42 winners over York Friday, Saturday at 6 p.m.
