Frontenacs 50th
Posted: March 17th, 2013 @ 11:57am
Today's installment in a daily series that recalls the story of the 1962-63 Kingston Frontenacs, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of their Eastern Professional Hockey League championship season:
Fifty years ago today, Sunday, March 17, 196
The shorthanded Hull-Ottawa Canadiens are their own worst enemy in helping Sudbury to a 4-3 victory before 1,667 spectators at the Hull Arena. The setback cost the Canadiens a game in hand they held over the Kingston Frontenacs, who remain three points ahead of Hull-Ottawa in the battle for first place, with eight games left in the EPHL season.
The Canadiens indirectly helped the Wolves to all four goals, the Ottawa Citizen reported, through "bad passing, clearing and a general defensive letdown." Claude Larose scored twice for Hull while rookie Marc Dufour scored his 43rd goal of the season for Sudbury. The winners got their other goals from Dunc McCallum, Dave McComb and Wally Chevrier.
The Canadiens face a heavy week of action. Monday and Wednesday they have games with the Wolves in Sudbury before returning to the Auditorium Friday against the improved St. Louis Braves. Sunday, the Habs move to the Hull Arena for a crucial game with Kingston.
The Frontenacs, idle today, play Tuesday night in St. Louis. Related Articles:
