Queen's to host evaluation camp for football recruits

Posted: April 18th, 2015 @ 9:40pm

Queen’s University will host the first stop in the Ontario University Athletics Top Recruit Football Combine Series Thursday at Tindall Field. The camp will start at 6 p.m.

The nine camps are touted as opportunities for high school students with designs on playing university football to showcase their talents for coaches and recruiters from all 11 OUA teams.

Over the course of three hours, participants will undergo physical testing and take part in individual drills and one-on-one skill competitions. The sessions are geared toward high school students who are entering Grade 10 or 11, though anyone not currently playing football in a Canadian Interuniversity Sport institution is welcome to attend.

Players should bring proper footwear, shorts, water and personal gear such as gloves. Helmets and pads are not required.

Each participant will receive an OUA information package.

This series presents the only opportunity for prospective intercollegiate athletes to demonstrate their football skills before OUA coaches. The association prohibits its coaches from attending privately held combines.

To register, go to www.oua.ca/toprecruit. The fee for registering in advance online is $30. Players may pay $45 to register at the event, but space is not guaranteed since there’s a limit to the number of people who can take part. Athletes under the age of 18 who are registering at the event must have a parent or guardian attend to sign a consent form, without which they will not be able to participate.
